Background
Dr. Shane Ryan graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) from the University of Queensland (Australia) in 1980. After nearly 4 years working in mixed animal practice & overseas travel, Dr. Shane accepted a position in a predominately small animal practice in Singapore in 1984. In 1989 he established Companion Animal Surgery - which has grown from a single-person practice to today having 10 fully-licensed veterinarians on staff, along with 12 auxiliary staff including 5 overseas veterinarians employed as veterinary technicians.

In 1998, Dr. Shane completed a Masters of Veterinary Studies in Small Animal Medicine & Surgery at Murdoch University (Western Australia). He has furthered continued his professional education, becoming certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) as a veterinary acupuncturist in 2004, and looking further at rehabilitation and pain management, added a Post-Graduate Diploma in Animal Chiropractic (2007), followed by a Masters of Chiropractic Science (2010), both from RMIT University (Melbourne).

Since the 1990s, Dr. Shane has been actively involved in the Singapore Veterinary Association, and has served on the SVA committee in a variety of positions, including 4 consecutive terms as president of the association (as of 2013). Heavily involved in the Asian veterinary community, Dr. Shane is also the President-Elect of the Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA), and serves on the Executive Board of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) as honorary treasurer. In 2011, he initiated the formation of the Asia Oceania Veterinary Group (AOVG), an informal group he now chairs, promoting regional veterinary networking and providing inexpensive or free regional veterinary continuing education.

Interests
Dr. Shane also sits on the Singapore government's Workplace Safety & Health Council (Healthcare) Committee, and acts as a Conference Ambassador for the Singapore Tourism Board. In his spare time, Shane is an avid cricketer, a very part-time golfer and a frequent traveller.
